How do doctors keep from being sick all the time?

January 20th, 2010 | by admin |

How do doctors keep from being sick after treating patients with different diseases, such as colds, flu, or any other infectious disease that people are normally not taken any vaccine for it? Do they just get naturally immune to it?

Not all doctors deal with people who have airborne infections, but all physicians and other healthcare workers are supposed to practice good hygiene, and also are recommended to receive flu vaccine. Most infections that doctors would be susceptible to, except perhaps tuberculosis and strep (which proper handwashing can cut down on), aren’t treatable with antibiotics. In my experience, I’ve noticed that doctors are rather less likely to take medication than the rest of us are.

over time i think that they do get immune. you only have to get something once for your body to recognize and kill it every time. but they also have access to antibiotics thourhg other doctors and can self diagnose so they can respond quicker.

Medical professionals get ill too! We just might have better immune systems because we are exposed to many germs all the time. Also we practice good hand hygeine constantly, and we are required to have certain immunzations up to date, and annual flu shots.

Doctors have a better understanding of how to avoid illness than most, and practice better hygiene, but I think that much of it is that they simply don’t have time to be sick. I have noticed in my own life that when I don’t have time to be sick, I generally don’t get sick.
