Can you damage your family’s health even if you smoke outside only?

July 29th, 2010 | by admin |

I smoke cigars. I just quit smoking. I know when people smoke outside, when they go inside they bring the smell with them and I know some people don’t appreciate it. Not only I quit smoking because of that, it’s bad for me too of course. I never smoked inside my house. I’m the only smoker in my family. I don’t even smoke in my truck. Can a small amount of odor even damage people’s health?

It is the SMOKE, not the ODOR that affects people

Yes. My sister goes to her friend’s house where her friend’s mom only smokes outside. She comes back and smells like smoke every time. It destroys my lungs and gives me asthma attacks.

Yes, especially to children who may have an underlying respiratory problem. The ill effects of a cigarette can stay on a person for up to 2 hours after they have gone outside.

I can only tell you that I see children of smokers all the time in the hospital that I have to treat because of breathing problems. More so than children of non smokers. I have seen the effects first hand. I keep my children away from it. I understand people have very strong opinions on this and want to believe they are not causing their children harm. I am only stating what I have seen first hand and what I have learned as a respiratory therapist.

    Best of luck to you.

Of course not. Some people just like to complain, so they hope you’ll be like them. Don’t buy into it. My father smoked 3 packs a day, inside the house and car, around my sister, mother, and myself, and none of us have any sicknesses. Just a bunch of garbage they feed you.
