What is the appropriate age for a girl to go see a gynecologist?
June 19th, 2010 | by admin |My mom wants me to see a gynecologist for regular check ups and stuff.she wanted me to ask on here (she doesn’t know how this works.lol.) when is the appropriate age.Im currently 13 btw.
Also out of curiousity,do they weigh you there? And what happens at the gynecologist.Like how does the checkup go? :S
Also, will your parent be with you through all of this? or just some of it? and it isn’t ur family physician that is doing this.right?
You generally don’t need to see a gynecologist until you are sexually active or over 18. And usually, your family doctor can handle most issues until then. The exam is not very painful or anything, but it may be if you still have your hymen. I just wouldn’t recommend getting checked out until there is a reason to (you turn 18, you have sex, or you are having issues that only a gynecologist can solve.)

18 or when you become sexually active is when you should start seeing a gynecologist.
They will weigh you.
Here’s a good site about what to expect.

well, when you first get your period, when you lose your virginity, or when you turn 20 are all good times to go to the gynecologist. you should go b4 then if your having any problems in that area. the doctor will ask you questions about your period and sexually activity and etc…. she/he may also do a pap smear which is when they take a sample of your cervical tissue with a swab stick. this may or may not be uncomfortable, but not painful.

I would say 13 is a bit early but I know people go early in America, they seem to like yearly check-ups from when you get your period, doesn’t seem so common in other countries.
I would say if you’re uncomfortable with the idea then you can delay it. Unless you are having problems there is definitely no need for a pap smear or anything at your age.
I’ve heard them say that it’s best to go when you start being sexually active or you turn 18, whichever comes first.
You can request that your parent is either there or leaves, depending on what you find most comfortable. Usually you can also request a nurse and there should be a female present if your gynaecologist is a man.
