Could I go through life without ever going to the gynecologist?

December 4th, 2010

Serious question, serious answers, please.

I am planning to stay sexually inactive for the rest of my life.

Will I be okay if I never go to the gynecologist?
I will remain sexually inactive. That is not the question. let me just get that one fact straight. :|

And I thought the reason for going to the gynecologist was for STD’s. So why would I need to go?

You could go through life without seing a gynecologist or other doctor for a vaginal exam, breast exam, and pap smear, but you’d be risking your health. Sexual activity is only one of many reasons for having these exams. You can develop problems in your female organs that are unrelated to sex. You do not have to have sex to develop cervical cancer or breast cancer. In addition, you can develop fibroids, uterine cancer, and ovarian cysts and cancer without regard to sexual activity.

Regular visits to the doctor will assure that you female organs are healthy and that, if a problem develops, it is caught and treated early. Please re-consider the idea of not going to the gynecologist. If you find tthe idea frightening or intimidating, you might want to find an understanding female physician to make the exam a little easier.

In California, are you required to have health insurance for your child if your job offers family insurance?

December 4th, 2010

1. In California, are you required to have health insurance for your child if your job offers family health insurance (medical, dental and vision) for you and your child?
2. does the court require you to sign up your child through your workplace’s health insurance (family plan)?

note: I am a noncustodial parent
2. If your job offers family health insurance (dental, medical, and vision), does the court require the noncustodial parent to have their child on their workplace’s health insurance (family plan)?

depends on your custody arrangement via the court order

but seriously, why wouldn’t you list your children?

What are some email addresses of doctors specializing in migraines?

December 4th, 2010

I’m in an Honors Science class, we have to create a science fair project. One of our assignments is to ask an expert about the area we are studying. Thus, I am doing my project on migraines since I suffer from them frequently. I was wondering if anyone can help me get the email addresses of a few doctors so I can email them the interview. I’m looking, but I seem to only be able to find the names of doctors, not their contact information. So if you could help, that would be great!

why do guys answer womans health questions?

October 27th, 2010

how would they know the answer all they know is what they hear and what they hear is so messed up most of the time
im talkin about the little teen boys not the older guys the one who really dont have any experience with women
and yall can stop trying to act hard cuz its just a question and you look stupid trying to come hard over the computer

Good question… and here’s a good answer.

Some of us actually *know* what we’re talking about and *care* that women have problems we might be able to help with.

I’ve had lots of girlfriends, been married twice, raised two girls, and talked *honestly* about most women’s health issues with the close women in my life for almost 35 years. I also read more about medical, gynaecological, obstetrical and surgical nursing before I was 5 years old than most people will ever read in a lifetime.

You?

EDIT:
I apologize if I sound "hard" (not the best word in the circumstance) but you didn’t exclude caring and knowledgeable guys from your original question until now and I took offense.

Young boys do it to learn, to show off to their friends, to be annoying because they don’t kow how else to behave with girls and women, or just for the "fun" of doing something "naughty"… same like the young girls in Men’s Health. They’re not grown up enough to care that they’re being jerks. Whatcha gonna do? They’re kids. :-)

Can a gynecologist brake your hymen while examining your vagina?

October 27th, 2010

Can the gynecologists brake your hymen by inserting a speculum (a metal tool to open up your vagina, kind of looks like a duck’s bill) into your vagina to look at your cervix? Because I’m a virgin and I went to the gynecologist to talk about my period and she examined my vagina.

Absolutely. Having anything inside of your vagina can break your hymen…including a tampon. So if the doctor didn’t break it, something else might have.

Personal family health insurance with deductible $5000 or less?

October 27th, 2010

Trying to find a Health Insurance plan with a deductible of $5000 or less. Found a Blue Cross one for about $7500 but that’s to much since I only make $15000 a year.

There are many plans available with deductibles of $5000 or less. Visit a local independent agent to find the best plan for your situation since plans and companies vary by location. Many individual plans will have doctor visits and prescriptions without having to meet the deductible first. Also, you may be interested in an HSA qualified plan where you can save some money in a savings account to help pay the deductible. Even if you have a higher deductible the hospitals will work with you to make the deductible payments.

How do you get over the fear of doctors offices?

October 27th, 2010

It’s understandable when kids are scared of going to the doctor, getting shots, and getting surgery’s done, but i’m 18 years old now and I think it’s time for me to grow up. I hate always being so shaky about doctors, it’s pathetic. How do I get over this? It’’s not like i’m terrified, but i’m always worried, and nervous, and I wish I could just walk into a doctors office with the same mindset as if i’m walking into the mall, like it’s nothing.

Any tips?

Being afraid of going to the doctor is not abnormal. I am glad that you are trying to overcome it at 18. Here are a few things I would try:

1.Most insurances will let you chose your own doctor – even if it is at their facility. I would try to meet with the doctors before selecting one. If that’s not possible, you may be able to talk to them over the phone. Have a list of questions handy. These should be basic questions you want to know such as how long they have been a doctor, where they went to school, etc…this way you feel more comfortable visiting them. You might also want to have a few personal questions. If you have a reoccurring problem such as migraines or ear infections, ask them what experience they have in those areas.

2.When you go to the doctor, let them know you are nervous and would like them to explain procedures as they are going along. The more information you have about the exam will make you feel better. If he’s shining a light in your eyes, make sure you know why. This is another way you can build trust with your doctor.

3.If you are nervous going along, take along a friend. They can help keep your mind occupied while you are in the waiting room. You can also ask that a nurse be present during the visit.

4.Write out a list of what makes you afraid to see the doctor. Examine the list carefully and try to think of ways that can help your work through each individual fear. Learning why you are afraid of something can help you overcome it.

5.If you are religious pray before going into the appointment. If not, give yourself a good pep talk before going in.

6.Practice. You have to persevere through the fear. Surviving it should help you realize that you can do again in the future.

Good luck! :-)

What kind of classes do you need to be good at to be an obstetrician/gynecologist?

October 8th, 2010

I’m a junior in high school and im thinking about going to college to either be an obstetrician or a gynecologist. I was just wondering what classes you need to take/get good grades in to become those kindof doctors?

You need to be a Doctor first. The best subjects are maths, english and science (especially chemistry).

What exactly is a Nurse Practitioner? The reason I ask because everytime I go to my family health clinic that?

October 8th, 2010

is who I get to see and to me she don’t know what she talking about. You tell her your back hurts she says maybe it your mattress, you tell her your head hurts she says maybe it’s because you look a TV in bed with your head prop wrong. She never does any test or x-rays. She don’t touch you, and can’t even get a correct blood pressure reading. She told me my blood pressure was up after checking my second arm and gave me some water pills,I’m kinda of afraid to take them because she don’t seem to confident in what she is talking about and she has to get paid $85. a visit to tell you what you could have looked up on the web. I want a refund from her. I be glad when Bush past the bill for people that have no Health Insurance to get it without paying the other taxes out of you paycheck.

Nurse Practioners are at an advanced level of nursing. They provide basic primary healthcare. They diagnose and treat common acute illnesses and injuries. Nurse Practioners can prescribe medications. Nurse Practioners meet higher educational and clinical practice requirements beyond the basic nursing education and licensing required of all RN’s.
